MHP's Feti Yıldız issues warning to MPs regarding vehicles with flashing lights

MHP Deputy Chairman and Istanbul MP Feti Yıldızmade a notable statement regarding the use of vehicles with flashing lights by members of parliament.

Sharing on his social media account, Yıldız emphasized that a flashing light is not a "status symbol," but a right granted to vehicles authorized for emergency situations and duty requirements.

Yıldız reminded that Article 71 of the Highway Traffic Law No. 2918 and Article 141 of the Traffic Regulation restrict the use of flashing lights, stating that this right can only be used by a limited number of official vehicles while on duty.

Citing ambulances, fire trucks, police, gendarmerie, emergency response vehicles, and state protocol vehicles as examples, Yıldız expressed that the use of vehicles with flashing lights is frequently witnessed to be abused.

Yıldız concluded his statement by saying, "I am saying this clearly, without any 'buts' or 'ifs.' My fellow members of parliament should not use vehicles with flashing lights outside of matters related to their legislative duties."

The statement made by Feti Yıldız on his X account is as follows:

Ambulances,

Fire trucks,

Police and gendarmerie teams,

Emergency response vehicles,

State protocol vehicles

can only be used by a limited number of official vehicles such as these while on duty.

We are witnessing this right being abused very often. 

For their private errands,  we see colleagues using flashing lights while going to the barber, the greengrocer,

the corner store, or while out for a drive in the countryside.

I would like to remind these colleagues  that they receive significant backlash from citizens who are driving in traffic.

I am saying this clearly, without any 'buts' or 'ifs'.

My fellow members of parliament  should not use vehicles with flashing lights outside of matters related to their legislative duties."
