MHP's Feti Yıldız on the 'Right to Hope': 'It is not an automatic release'

MHP Deputy Chairman Feti Yıldız emphasized that trustee regulations have no connection to laying down arms. He stated that while these regulations can be implemented, they cannot be directly linked to the process of laying down arms. He noted that the implementation of European Court of Human Rights rulings does not require a report or a new legal regulation.

'THE RIGHT TO HOPE MEANS CONDITIONAL RELEASE'

Regarding the possibility of PKK terrorist organization leader Abdullah Öcalan benefiting from the 'right to hope,' Yıldız stated, "The Right to Hope does not mean automatic release. It can occur through conditional release, meaning the convict has served a certain portion of their sentence and demonstrates good behavior." He further emphasized that the Right to Hope is not a direct release or amnesty, but should be evaluated as conditional release.

Stating that the resolution process report does not reflect all of the MHP's demands but is largely close to the MHP's report, Yıldız drew attention to the importance of making legal arrangements. He said that elements such as ECHR rulings, the unitary structure of the Republic of Turkey, and the characteristics of the republic were included in the report.

A LAW MUST BE ENACTED FOR ÖCALAN

Stating that a law must be enacted to make a regulation regarding Öcalan's situation, Yıldız expressed that the legal process must be completed before any changes are made.

REGULATIONS ON SENTENCE REDUCTION AND TERRORIST ORGANIZATION MEMBERS

Stating that work on sentence reduction is ongoing, Yıldız said that each terrorist offender will be processed individually and that probation can only be applied to those who are members of a terrorist organization. He added that such regulations would be carried out in accordance with the penal code.

Addressing MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli's remarks, 'Anatolia to peace, Öcalan to hope, the Ahmets to office, Demirtaş to his home,' Yıldız stated that this statement only subjects Öcalan's situation to verification, while the others do not require such confirmation.

A 'MILESTONE' FOR THE RESOLUTION PROCESS

Feti Yıldız stated that the resolution process is a turning point for Turkish politics. He said that October 22, 2024, would be considered a 'milestone' and that political taboos have been broken since that date.

THE STATUS OF ORGANIZATION MEMBERS AND PKK WEAPONS

Yıldız stated that regulations concerning organization members could be implemented if security units confirm that the PKK has laid down its arms and disbanded. Expressing hope for the progress of the resolution process, he said, 'Hopefully, we will be able to see the PKK lay down its arms this year.'

Yıldız described the starting point of the resolution process as a 'historical document serving our brotherhood.' He noted that the MHP taking the lead in this process is a significant step for Turkish politics.

'THE MHP HAS NO TABOOS'

Recalling that he served as a lawyer for martyrs' families in counter-terrorism cases 25 years ago, Yıldız emphasized the importance of the process moving forward, stating, 'I never thought I would meet with Öcalan one day, but when the homeland and the nation are at stake, everything can be done.'
