MHP's Semih Yalçın calls on Tuğrul Türkeş regarding 'Osman Kavala': 'It stains your surname...'

AKP Ankara MP and Head of the Turkish Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Tuğrul Türkeş's statements regarding Gezi Park trial detainee Osman Kavala have drawn a reaction from MHP Deputy Chairman Semih Yalçın.

Sending a message to a TV100 broadcast where Tuğrul Türkeş's remarks, "I will visit Kavala, this is what true nationalism is," were being discussed, Semih Yalçın called on Türkeş to abandon this decision. 

"HE IS DAMAGING HIS SURNAME"

Yalçın's statement is as follows: 

"Yıldırım Tuğrul Bey's nonsensical statements are continuously damaging the surname he carries. His inappropriate stance in politics is built upon distorting the truth, trivializing ideas, and stripping the cause of its principles. Now, Tuğrul Efendi has said that he will visit Osman Kavala, who is imprisoned in the Gezi Park trial. Moreover, he has rambled completely by saying, 'This is true nationalism, patriotism... This is the nationalism I was taught.' No matter which part of this insolent statement you try to correct, it falls apart in your hands. Does a person not benefit even a tiny bit from their father's cause, spiritual and intellectual legacy?

Visiting a notorious criminal who is a tool and subcontractor for circles hostile to Turkishness, and who was convicted for acting together with separatists who rebelled against the state during the Gezi Park events, does not only make the bones of our late Başbuğ (Leader) ache; it also stains his surname and his political legacy. Visiting Kavala is not nationalism. On the contrary, it is humiliation; it is lack of nationality, lack of principles, and lack of character. It is direct support for separatist and Marxist actions and hostility toward Turks. We invite Tuğrul Türkeş to abandon this attempt, which will please the enemies of Turkishness and will mean 'I approve of your actions' from Kavala's perspective."

WHAT HAPPENED?

In an interview with Gazete Duvar, Tuğrul Türkeş had said regarding Gezi Park trial detainee Osman Kavala, "I requested from our Minister Yılmaz Tunç. I asked for permission to meet at an appropriate time. I will visit him at some point. I will have seen Osman Kavala for the first time during that visit. This is true nationalism, patriotism. This is the nationalism I was taught. It is necessary to find resources for Turkey under the best conditions. Furthermore, I am the child of a father who spent 7 years of his life, one-tenth of his life, in prison."
