Milli Yol Party Osmaniye Provincial Chair Süleyman Özer has been detained on the grounds that he insulted President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in his social media posts.
Özer's lawyer, Muhammet Güloğlu, stated in a press release that his client is a provincial political party chair and that his posts contained only political criticisms aimed at raising awareness among the party base. Güloğlu expressed that this situation does not constitute a crime and that they expect him to be released after his statement is taken.
Furthermore, emphasizing that his client could have come to provide a statement if summoned by phone, the lawyer argued that the arrest and detention decision was not in accordance with the law.
