Minimum wage statement from People's Alliance partner: Gives a percentage for the first time

The BBP Denizli Provincial Congress was held at the Bereketler Congress and Culture Center. The congress was attended by BBP Chairman Mustafa Destici, AKP Deputy Chairman Nihat Zeybekci, AKP Denizli Provincial Chairman Muhammet Subaşıoğlu, and party members.

At the congress, while former BBP Denizli Provincial Chairman İsmail Sarıteke did not run for office, Selman Yeniçulha became a candidate. Speaking at the congress, BBP Chairman Mustafa Destici stated that we are going through a period where there are weaknesses and decay in our family life and in our morality and faith, which are our most important strengths and earnings, and said, "What makes us who we are, what saves us in our most difficult times, what leads us to salvation, what brings us victory in battles is our faith, our belief, our religion, our culture, our identity, our Turkishness; but unfortunately, there is a great degeneration regarding these. Therefore, we have an obligation to raise our children and youth with an upbringing and morality suitable for Turkish-Islamic culture and prepare them for the future."

'BETTING, DRUGS, PROSTITUTION...'

Destici continued his words as follows:

'We see the images on social media and the extent to which events such as betting, drugs, and prostitution, which have been on Turkey's agenda recently, have descended. On one hand, we see the levels that degeneration has reached. On the other hand, we see who it involves. We see that individuals whom we call 'religious' and 'national' in the public eye are in a state of decay. But we must not forget that it is this system that causes this. There is a problem with the system; the system is faulty. That is why the late Chairman Muhsin used to say, 'We did not establish the BBP as an alternative to any party; we established it as an alternative to the system.' We need to fundamentally revise and change this system.'

'MINIMUM WAGE SHOULD INCREASE BY 50 PERCENT'

Making a statement regarding the minimum wage, Destici said, “In Denizli, tradesmen say, 'The economic stagnation has hit us just as it has hit all of Turkey.' Making a living with the minimum wage is becoming difficult. Speaking of the minimum wage; everyone is stating a figure, and we have stated one too. When we state a figure or make a proposal regarding the minimum wage or retirees, we do not say it with a populist approach; we say it by basing it on a rationale. Why do we say 'The minimum wage should increase by 50 percent'? We say it for this reason: We are also aware of the expectations of the industrialist or the employer. The 2024 inflation came out at 45-46 percent. Together with the 3 percent evaluation share, this reaches 48-49 percent. But at that time, all workers, civil servants, public employees, and retirees received this rate. They received it with two raises a year, meaning they received the 45 percent raise. But the minimum wage earners were given 30 percent. In other words, the minimum wage earner had 18-19 percent left to receive. Now, the 2025 inflation is expected to be approximately 31 percent. When you add the two together, it makes 50 percent. So, the reason we say '50 percent' is this. The minimum wage is currently 22 thousand 104 liras. When you take exactly 50 percent of this wage, it makes 33 thousand 52 liras. This is our minimum wage proposal,' he said.
