Minister Fidan: We will intervene in South Africa's case against Israel
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced that Turkey will intervene in the case filed by South Africa against Israel on charges of 'genocide'.
Ankara has extended its support to the Republic of South Africa regarding the case it filed against Israel on the grounds that it is "committing genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza."
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a joint press conference in Ankara with Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi.
Minister Fidan announced that they would support the African nation in the case filed by the Republic of South Africa against Israel on the grounds that it is "committing genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza."
Fidan stated, "As Turkey, we have decided to intervene in the case (regarding genocide) filed by South Africa against Israel at the International Court of Justice."
WHAT HAPPENED?
In response to Israel's attacks on Gaza since October 7, 2023, an application was filed with the International Court of Justice in The Hague against the Tel Aviv administration on charges of 'genocide'.
A series of provisional measures were issued against Israel in the case, for which the first hearing was held in January. However, in March, the South African government brought to the court's agenda that Israel was not complying with the provisional measures and that new measures needed to be taken. Following this, it requested new provisional measures against Israel from the International Court of Justice.
