Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin backtracks on 'protocol with religious groups' remarks!

Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin, who had previously stated that he would continue to sign protocols with sects and religious groups, has backtracked following the backlash.

"OUT OF THE QUESTION"

Stating that for the Ministry to sign a protocol, there must be "real" legal entities on the other side, Tekin said, "It is out of the question for us to sign a protocol with any religious group."

Speaking to Haber 7, which is known for its proximity to the government, Tekin's statement is as follows;

"The DEM Party spokesperson took the floor and talked about the schooling rates of children in the Southeast. I, in turn, talked to him about the PKK's attacks that disrupt education. They made our schools unusable. This is the logic of 'let children not go to school, let them go to the mountains.' The IYI Party spokesperson ignores this and gives a lecture on Turkish nationalism there. Then the CHP criticizes the 'Student Oath.' You form an alliance with the HDP and then you criticize the removal of the 'Student Oath.' First of all, we live in a state of law; as the Ministry of National Education, with whom can we sign a protocol? For me to sign a protocol, there must be a real entity in front of me. It is out of the question for us to sign a protocol with any religious group."

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

In his speech at the General Assembly of the Parliament, Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin, who defended the protocols signed with sects, had used the expressions: "You might have a total of 10 protocols with structures you call 'sects and religious groups' and we call 'NGOs.' We will continue to sign protocols with them. Because they prevent children from joining armed groups."

While Tekin's statement was met with public backlash, many bar associations had also filed criminal complaints against him.
