Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç answered journalists' questions at the Panel on Strengthening Women's Access to Justice at the Dikmen Judges' House and at the 10th Erzurum Promotion Days in Ankara at the Altınpark Expo Center. Tunç also made assessments regarding the arrest of Nasuh Mahruki yesterday, the summons for testimony of former CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, the 'betting' investigation into Acun Ilıcalı, and the footage from the Planning and Budget Committee.
Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç answered journalists' questions at the Panel on Strengthening Women's Access to Justice at the Dikmen Judges' House and at the 10th Erzurum Promotion Days in Ankara at the Altınpark Expo Center.
THE ARREST OF NASUH MAHRUKİ
Tunç made the following remarks regarding the arrest of AKUT founder Nasuh Mahruki, who was detained yesterday:
We see that judicial investigations are conducted from time to time due to social media posts. If an act constitutes a crime in real life, it also does so on social media. Therefore, if our judiciary sees elements of a crime in social media posts, an investigation is initiated. It is our judges and prosecutors who will determine whether these posts constitute a crime. However, when we look at the posts, you read the posts that the judiciary considers as grounds. These were evaluated as very dangerous statements that the judiciary viewed as criminal elements.
We all see how the elections are held and how the elections, which were carried out with 85 percent participation, were conducted in a transparent manner.
It is the most transparent election in the world. We see name by name who voted at the ballot box where we cast our votes.
To claim that there was fraud here and that millions of people were made to vote, it is the judiciary that will evaluate whether this constitutes a crime.
FOOTAGE FROM THE PLANNING AND BUDGET COMMITTEE
Regarding the scenes at the Planning and Budget Committee where the Ministry of Interior's budget was being discussed, Minister Tunç said,"It is impossible to accept the verbal and physical attacks against our Minister of Interior. The fact that this took place in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey saddens our nation. There is no place for such physical attacks in democracies. Trying to block a minister who wants to be there on time with such obstructions is not something that happens in democracies. Therefore, we condemn these attacks and hope they will not be repeated. Nothing can be achieved through such ugly actions." he said.
Speaking about Fenerbahçe Vice President and owner of TV8 and Exxen, Acun Ilıcalı, Minister Tunç noted the following:
"Illegal betting and gambling are problems in our country. There are numerous measures that have been referred to the judiciary. We must protect our youth and children. We must especially protect them from the harmful broadcasts on the internet. Illegal betting and gambling are also areas that must be fought against. We do not have the opportunity to explain one by one which investigation is at what stage here.
Regardless of who it is, the judiciary will carry out the necessary prosecution, and if there is a crime, the necessary penalties will be served."
RESIGNATION OF MHP DEPUTIES
Speaking on MHP Deputy Chairman Semih Yalçın's request for the resignation of three deputies, Minister Tunç stated, 'There is no investigation referred to our judiciary.'
Finally, Minister Tunç criticized the summons for testimony of former CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and the statements of support made regarding the matter.
Tunç noted the following:
There are investigations and prosecutions regarding the former chairman of the CHP. Summaries of proceedings (fezlekeler) had been prepared and sent to Parliament. Due to parliamentary immunity, it was not possible to proceed with the trial. The investigations and prosecutions conducted against him have now come to the agenda. There are distortions on social media regarding the testimony to be taken tomorrow.
Reacting to the calls to 'close ranks,' Tunç pointed to rallies held in 2014 and stated that the investigations were initiated due to remarks made against Erdoğan.
Stating that the files have been consolidated, Tunç explained that the case in Mersin was transferred to Ankara and that the testimony would be taken there.
'The former CHP Chairman is the best example that one cannot get anywhere with defamation.' Tunç, who said, "our nation says no to smear politics"used the expressions.
