Minister Uraloğlu blames Türk Telekom for internet speeds: 'They are primarily responsible'

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu made significant statements regarding Turkey's internet infrastructure. Speaking on a Habertürk broadcast, Minister Uraloğlu clearly stated that current internet speeds are insufficient and pointed to Türk Telekom as the party responsible.

'WE MUST EXPAND OUR FIBER LINES'

Highlighting that fiber line infrastructure across Turkey has reached 600,000 kilometers, Minister Uraloğlu said, "We have managed to bring these lines to certain streets and building entrances. However, because most of the wiring inside the buildings is copper, there are problems with internet speeds." he said.

Emphasizing the need to expand fiber lines, Uraloğlu added,"We need to increase this distance to millions of kilometers. I believe that when we reach 700,000 to 800,000 kilometers, many of the problems will be solved." he said.

'WE ARE BEHIND EXPECTATIONS'

Criticizing Turkey's performance in internet speed, Minister Uraloğlu stated, "When we look at it from the end-user's perspective, we are not where we want to be; that is very clear. We must be at a better point. The demands of our citizens and the speeds they desire in their subscriptions are the determining factors in this process."

RESPONSIBILITY LIES WITH TÜRK TELEKOM

Addressing the efforts to resolve problems in internet infrastructure, the Minister added, "Türk Telekom is primarily responsible for this issue. More investment and development are essential." he said.

Stating that work continues on the necessary tasks for internet infrastructure to help Turkey reach its digitalization goals, Uraloğlu said that strengthening fiber infrastructure is the primary objective.
