Ministry responds to claims that 'Germany will send asylum seekers to Turkey'
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Öncü Keçeli has denied reports in the German press claiming that Germany will send asylum seekers to Turkey.
It was alleged that an agreement had been reached between Turkey and Germany for the readmission of Turkish passport holders who have applied for asylum but have not left Germany despite their applications being rejected, and that within this scope, Germany would send 500 people to Turkey every week.
Following the reports in the German press, a statement came from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Öncü Keçeli stated that the news in question is not true.
In a post on his social media account, Spokesperson Keçeli stated, “The reports in the German press regarding the return to Turkey of our citizens who do not have the right of legal residence in Germany are not true. No approval has been given for any practice regarding the mass deportation of our citizens. This issue was not raised during the meeting between our President and German Chancellor Scholz in New York on September 23.”
