Muhittin Böcek, who was removed from his post as Mayor of Antalya Metropolitan Municipality, addressed the people of Antalya via social media following his arrest.
Stating that he uses 14 medications a day due to health problems, Böcek said, "I do not want to be a victim of irreversible negligence."
In his message, Böcek stated, "My dear fellow citizens, I am the only person to have been elected mayor 6 times. I am known as a philanthropist in Antalya and I have worked for the peace of Antalya.
I am not a terrorist, and I am certainly not an organization leader," he said.
Furthermore, noting that even house arrest was considered too much for him, he added, "But let it not be forgotten that justice will be served sooner or later."
Böcek concluded his message with the words, "Stay with love, stay with justice, stay with the Republic, stay with Atatürk."
