Murat Kurum attacks İmamoğlu over 'we ended waste' signs: 'Double the earthquake budget'

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) mayoral candidate Murat Kurum stated that the CHP candidate could not appear on television, saying, "Do you know why they cannot appear? They want to go on television on the condition that this question (about the money counting footage) is not asked.

Why are you hiding it? Explain whatever it is to our nation in a transparent way. Let our people be enlightened," he said.

As a guest on the Gündem Özel program on Beyaz TV, Kurum noted that İBB President Ekrem İmamoğlu had not fulfilled the promises he made in 2019 and was repeating the same promises in this election.

Stating that İmamoğlu had "We ended waste" written on signs, Kurum spoke as follows:

"You have finished off Istanbul; what waste are you talking about? In these long 5 years, your indifference, incompetence, and lack of merit have brought Istanbul to the point of collapse. And then you come out and say, 'We succeeded.'

What did you succeed at? You succeeded in stopping Istanbul, turning traffic into an ordeal, increasing the fear of earthquakes even more, and failing to bring a single liter of drinking water source to Istanbul. And then they spend 500 million liras on these advertising signs. Can you imagine? The municipality's own sign.

At most, it would be a printing cost. We will now renew all our prints. It is clear how much it costs. Believe me, I could hang all the signs in Istanbul for 1 percent of that. The advertising budget is double the earthquake budget. Why? They are trying to manage through perception."

REGARDING THE MONEY COUNTING FOOTAGE

When asked about the money counting footage allegedly filmed at the CHP Istanbul Provincial Headquarters, Kurum said, "Are you aware that they cannot appear on television? Do you know why they cannot appear?

They want to go on television on the condition that this question is not asked. Why are you hiding it? Explain whatever it is to our nation in a transparent way. Let our people be enlightened.

They make such contradictory statements. You look and one lawyer says one thing, another says something else, and former provincial chairs offer different interpretations," he said.
