Starting his election campaign in Istanbul, AKP Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayoral Candidate Murat Kurum met with representatives of non-governmental organizations in Zeytinburnu.

The program, which began at 17:00 at the Belgradkapı Social Facilities, was attended by AKP Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayoral Candidate Murat Kurum, Mayor Ömer Arısoy, AKP Istanbul Deputy Hasan Turan, AKP Istanbul Deputy İsmail Erdem, party members, representatives of non-governmental organizations, and citizens.

"NEIGHBORHOOD HEADS ARE OUR EYES AND EARS"

Stating that neighborhood heads (muhtars) will be influential in managing Istanbul, Murat Kurum said, “In every investment we make in our cities, we learn our nation's words, ideas, and demands much better thanks to you. During my time as Minister, we helped our nation together during floods, earthquakes, and fires.

We shared the pain of our mothers and our children together. You are our companions on this journey. I pray that God is pleased with you for this sacred duty; I pray that He does not let us embarrass you or the people of Istanbul. I promise you, the neighborhood heads will be our colleagues. The neighborhood heads will be our eyes and ears.

We will never withdraw our support from our neighborhoods. I am underlining this. Under our administration, our neighborhood heads and our non-governmental organizations will not have their heads bowed. We will manage Istanbul with you. On the evening of March 31, our neighborhood heads will be the Metropolitan Mayor of Istanbul. Our non-governmental organizations will be. Our youth will be, our women will be, you will be,” he said.

"IF THERE ARE BROKEN HEARTS, WE WILL MEND THEM TOGETHER"

Stating that Istanbul has not been managed well enough in the last 5 years, Kurum said, “We have a goal, and that is to serve Istanbul. Creating works for this city has always been the greatest honor for me.

Every visit we made to our Istanbul was a harbinger of a new work. Now we have a new excitement. We have started a new marathon of works. We have an Istanbul before us that is struggling to transition from a period of stagnation to a period of rise.

There are Istanbulites who want the works they deserve. We will work hard for this. We will work for an Istanbul where no one is a victim. We will work with our children in mind. Believe in this; our hearts will only have love for Istanbul. Our agenda will be serving Istanbul.

Our subject will be Istanbul, our subject will be the people of Istanbul, our subject will be you. We need you very much in this marathon.

Together with you, we will rebuild the bridges of friendship and brotherhood. If there are broken hearts, we will mend them together. If there are resentful souls, we will win them over together. Now we will say Istanbul, only Istanbul, and hopefully, we will win,” he said.
