Gözdem Ongun, the wife of Murat Ongun, was also detained in the second wave of operations targeting the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB). In her testimony, Gözdem Ongun said, "I am someone who has been working and earning a regular income for years. I believe that proceedings were initiated against me within the scope of this investigation because of my husband, Murat Ongun. In fact, as a result of these investigations, I have reached a position where I have to ask for loans from my spouse, friends, and acquaintances."

According to the report by Ceylan Sever from Habertürk, Zeynep Ayten Gözdem Ongun, the wife of Medya A.Ş. Chairman of the Board Murat Ongun, was among the 52 people detained in the second wave of the "financial crimes investigation" conducted into the İBB.

BANK TRANSACTIONS QUESTIONED

During her police interrogation, Ongun was asked about the transactions in the bank account of her company, where she designs and sells her own products, as well as her own personal account transactions. Stating that she has a jewelry company, Gözdem Ongun said, "Individuals or companies may have purchased products from my company. The companies asked about might be companies owned by my personal clients, but I do not remember clearly at the moment. However, the company titled Urbanmedia Reklam ve İletişim Hizmetleri A.Ş. sounds familiar, and I remember making sales to this company. There are documents regarding this."

"I HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE OF THE TENDERS"

Gözdem Ongun was also asked about the allegations made by Sedat Kapıdağ regarding irregularities in the İBB's outdoor advertising tenders. Ongun replied, "I have never worked for the İBB as an executive or in any other capacity. I have not received any tenders through my company. I have no knowledge of the tenders."

"MY HUSBAND GAVE ME THE RENT FOR THE HOUSE WE LIVE IN IN CASH"

Regarding the landlord's statement that Gözdem Ongun made the payment, she said, "It is true; we rented the duplex apartment where I currently reside for a total of 3 million 717 thousand 400 TL per year. My husband gave me this rent money in cash. I then deposited this money into my account and sent it to the landlord from there."

Gözdem Ongun was also asked about the commercial activities of her design firm. She explained that they were generally sales of gift items. She stated that she received an advance payment when an order came in, and then the full payment was received depending on the status of the work.

Stating that she shares her designs on the internet, Ongun explained that the transactions were invoiced and that her lawyer would present the documents. Gözdem Ongun was asked about the account transactions mentioned in the MASAK report. She explained that 3 of the 17 account transactions were loans she requested from her relatives because she was experiencing financial difficulties after Murat Ongun was arrested.

"I ATTENDED EVENTS WITH MY HUSBAND"

Gözdem Ongun was asked why she had common cell tower signals with other suspects, to which she replied, "My husband and I attended many events and organizations together. If these individuals are municipal employees or related persons, I believe that is why we had signals from the same location."

"13 THOUSAND 800 TL IS MY SON'S HOLIDAY ALLOWANCE"

When asked about the source of the 83 thousand 700 TL, 227 dollars, 31 thousand 50 euros, and 1 thousand 640 pounds found during the house search, Gözdem Ongun said, "13 thousand 800 TL is my son's holiday allowance. The others are loans I received from people around me because my husband is in prison, which I keep to use in case of need. My son has a school payment coming up soon. It is normal for this amount of money to be in the house for this reason. I am someone who has been working and earning a regular income for years."

"The fact that the accounts of my company, which I founded and developed with my own efforts, have been examined in such minute detail has personally disturbed me. I believe that proceedings were initiated against me within the scope of this investigation because of my husband, Murat Ongun. In fact, as a result of these investigations, I have reached a position where I have to ask for loans from my spouse, friends, and acquaintances. In this process, the fact that my children are separated from both their mother and father, and that we are being subjected to accusations we do not deserve, deeply shakes me," she said.
