Muslim Brotherhood Association announces its dissolution

The Muslim Brotherhood Association, which operated under legal status in Jordan, has brought its existence to an end through an official resolution. A statement issued by the association said the decision was taken in accordance with the constitutional framework and national interests.

The statement read: "In accordance with the constitution and legal framework, we have carried out our activities with a transparent and moderate approach. However, in light of the current political atmosphere and the contentious discourse in the public sphere, we assess that the continuation of this structure would not serve the country's interests. We are taking this step in the interest of security, stability, and the welfare of future generations. We are dissolving this legal association out of our commitment to Jordan, the Hashemite leadership, and social peace."

Jordanian authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the dissolution decision. The association, which was founded in 2015 by members who broke away from the Brotherhood movement, had been officially recognised by the Jordanian government.

However, this situation had been characterised by the Brotherhood's traditional structure as "an attempt to undermine legitimacy."

In 2020, Jordan's Court of Cassation ruled for the official dissolution of the Muslim Brotherhood organisation. Subsequently, in April 2024, the Ministry of Interior banned all activities affiliated with the organisation.
