Name crisis in YENİ Parti: Three alternatives on the table ahead of Constitutional Court ruling

YENİ Parti has faced a name dispute before even holding its first party congress. Following an application to the Court of Cassation by Yenilik Partisi Chairman Öztürk Yılmaz citing name similarity, it was stated that the Office of the Chief Public Prosecutor at the Court of Cassation sent a warning to the party requesting a name change.

Alternatives are being evaluated behind the scenes in case the process is taken to the Constitutional Court (AYM) and a decision is made to change the party's name. The names being discussed include "Türkiye’nin YENİ Partisi" (Turkey's NEW Party), "YENİ Değişim Partisi" (NEW Change Party), and "YENİ Türkiye Partisi" (NEW Turkey Party). Among these options, it is stated that the name "YENİ Değişim Partisi" is coming to the fore.

YENİ Parti officials stated that they are closely monitoring the legal process following the warning, noting, "Since they sent us the warning, they believe the name needs to be changed."

Party strategists argue that they are examining previous Constitutional Court rulings and that claims of name similarity have been rejected in similar cases. In this context, they point to the examples of the Türk Birliği Partisi and Türkiye Birlik Partisi, as well as the Türkiye Komünist Partisi and Türkiye Komünist Hareketi.

Although the expectation that the Constitutional Court will not accept the grounds for confusion with the Yenilik Partisi remains prominent within the YENİ Parti camp, it is stated that preparations are being made against a possible name change decision. Party officials express that if such a decision is issued, the necessary steps, including a name change, will be taken to ensure participation in elections.
