New attack on CHP's Ahmet Akın: After threats in Balıkesir, now a fake message scandal

As the local elections approach, events in Balıkesir continue to dominate the agenda.

AKP's re-nominated Balıkesir Metropolitan Mayor Yücel Yılmaz recently threatened business people at an iftar dinner he attended.

In his speech, Yılmaz stated, "The city will have a reckoning with those who do not promise us support and who work behind our backs despite all our relationships with them."

Following Yılmaz's threats, another new scandal occurred in Balıkesir.

Fake messages were sent to voters in Balıkesir using a fake candidate who shares the same name as CHP's Balıkesir candidate Ahmet Akın.

The message in question included the following: "My dear fellow citizen, my beautiful family; I have become an independent candidate because I know the people's problems best. I am seeking your votes in the March 31 elections. I am at the end of the ballot, I look forward to your support."

Making a statement after the scandal, CHP's Ahmet Akın said the following:

"My Balıkesir family, those who realize they will lose the election are in a state of desperation and do not know what to do. They are threatening business people. They are distributing newspapers full of lies and slander everywhere using the municipality's resources. That was not enough; they are having a fake independent candidate named Ahmet Akın, who has never been seen before but shares my name, send messages using my own words. In the capital of the Kuvayi Milliye, my brave and honorable fellow citizens of Balıkesir know me very well. Starting from March 31, we will teach the tricksters and schemers the name Ahmet Akın, which I received from my grandfather, a holder of the Medal of Independence, and which I am honored to carry. I am sure that you will give the most appropriate response to this political immorality at the ballot box on Sunday."
