New debate within the AKP! Inside track: Is 40+1 coming instead of 50+1?
Gazete Pencere columnist Nuray Babacan stated that, alongside the new Constitution efforts frequently emphasized following the March 31 local elections, the idea of replacing the 50+1 system—which began with the Presidential Government System—with a 40+1 system has come to the agenda within the AKP.
President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's previous remark that changing the 50+1 system would be "the right move" has once again become a topic of discussion within the AKP.

Gazete Pencere columnist Nuray Babacan shared the following inside information on the matter:
"Let's return to the 'old plans' that explain why 40 plus 1 is needed within the AKP. Party strategists were talking about an interesting plan when justifying this... According to them, this will actually be needed after Tayyip Erdoğan. The conservative nationalist base needs 40 plus 1 to remain in power alone. Erdoğan had told journalists on the plane returning from Germany that changing the 50+1 percent requirement for the presidential election would be 'the right move'."
