New defection from Future Party to AKP! Harsh reaction from Davutoğlu
As the AKP continues its preparations for a new constitution, another deputy from the Future Party has defected to the AKP. President and AKP Chairman Erdoğan pinned the party badge on Konya Deputy Hasan Ekinci. Future Party leader Ahmet Davutoğlu reacted sharply, stating, "Small-minded calculations that view deputies as pawns are destroying the reputation of politics."
The AKP, which is preparing to draft a new constitution, continues to make transfers from opposition parties. President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan pinned the party badge on the latest defector, Future Party Konya Deputy Hasan Ekinci, during his party's group meeting.
With this, the Future Party has lost a total of 3 deputies to the AKP. Speaking on the matter in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) today, Future Party leader Ahmet Davutoğlu accused Erdoğan of 'engaging in small-minded calculations'.
Arguing that Erdoğan views deputies as pawns, Davutoğlu said, "Attempting to transfer deputies in a way that does not comply with political ethics, based on a logic of counting heads and numbers, disrupts the environment of sincerity and trust, and completely destroys the already shaken reputation of politics".

'HE SEES DEPUTIES AS PAWNS AND MAKES SMALL-MINDED CALCULATIONS'
Davutoğlu's speech is as follows:
"Great goals cannot be reached with small-minded calculations. On one hand, calling for calm from the opposition, and on the other, still viewing deputies as pawns to be counted in a total, and attempting to transfer deputies in a way that does not comply with political ethics based on a logic of counting heads and numbers, disrupts the environment of sincerity and trust; it completely destroys the already shaken reputation of politics. As a friend who has gone through many rings of fire together with him in the past, I say this sincerely: Whoever is advising him to take such Machiavellian steps, which render his own calls meaningless, is the greatest enemy to both him and the process. Undermining the reputation of the political institution most of all renders the call made by the President just four days ago meaningless. I say this clearly and plainly: politicians who undermine the reputation of politics with small-minded calculations are cutting the branch they are sitting on. We want to understand and interpret the President's words complaining about 'polarization' in this context as well."
