New development in Bolu Municipality investigation
As part of the investigation conducted into the Tanju Özcan era, Bolu Deputy Mayor Leyla Beykoz, who was in custody, has been placed under house arrest, while CHP Municipal Council Member Aydan Özdemir has been released under judicial control.
Lawyers for Bolu Deputy Mayor Leyla Beykoz and CHP Municipal Council Member Adnan Özdemir, who were detained and arrested by gendarmerie teams on April 11 as part of the investigation launched into Bolu Municipality, filed an objection to their clients' detention.
Evaluating the objection, the court panel decided to release Aydan Özdemir under judicial control and to convert Leyla Beykoz's detention into house arrest. Allegation that sacrificial donations were transferred to the foundation
It was determined that the individuals in question were board members of the BOLSEV Foundation, which was established by Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan, who was previously arrested as part of the investigation.
It was learned that the investigation is being conducted based on allegations that sacrificial donations collected during last year's Eid al-Adha were not used for slaughter but were instead transferred to BOLSEV.
On the other hand, an additional arrest warrant had been issued within the scope of this file for Özcan and BOLSEV Foundation member Ali Sarıyıldız, who are already in custody on charges of 'extortion by coercion'.
WHAT HAPPENED?
In the investigation coordinated by the Bolu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Mayor Tanju Özcan and Deputy Mayor Süleyman Can were the first to be arrested on March 3, followed by the arrest and imprisonment of CHP Council Member Cihan Tutal, Financial Affairs Manager Naim Ayhan, and Ali Sarıyıldız on April 6.
On April 17, Bolu Greengrocers and Market Vendors Chamber President Mustafa Altındal and chamber staff member Mesut Kalafat were arrested due to audio recordings that emerged regarding bribery allegations.
The completed indictment regarding Bolu Municipality includes charges of 'extortion', 'attempted extortion', 'accepting bribes', 'qualified fraud', 'violation of the Law on Foundations and Associations', 'aiding extortion', 'mediating bribery', 'perjury', and 'harboring a criminal' against 19 defendants, 7 of whom are in custody.
