New development in party congress investigation: Explosive allegations from CHP delegate
Hatip Karaaslan, a CHP İzmir congress delegate, has testified as a witness to the prosecutor's office regarding the investigation launched into the CHP's party congress. Claiming he was told, "Support Özgür Özel, and we will give you as much money as you want," Karaaslan named Ekrem İmamoğlu, Özgür Özel, İzmir Mayor Cemil Tugay, and the arrested businessman Aziz İhsan Aktaş.
The investigation launched into the 38th congress of the Republican People's Party (CHP), where Özgür Özel was elected chairman, continues to remain on the agenda.
According to a report by Yeni Şafak, known for its proximity to the government, CHP İzmir congress delegate Hatip Karaaslan applied to the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and provided testimony as a witness.
Karaaslan, who supported Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu at the 2023 congress, alleged that he was told, "Support Özgür Özel, and we will give you as much money as you want."
In his statement, Karaaslan claimed that businessman Aziz İhsan Aktaş distributed large sums of money to ensure support for Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. It is alleged that Hatip Karaaslan stated, "I heard that Aziz İhsan Aktaş handles cleaning, vehicle, and fuel supply operations for a large portion of municipalities in Turkey and wins municipal tenders. This individual also handles such operations for the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. From what I have heard, this person is the primary source of the money distributed at the congress."
