The court has decided to continue the detention of university student Esila Ayık, who was arrested due to a banner she carried during protests in Kadıköy.
Ayık's lawyer, Canberk Uluğ, stated that the Istanbul Medical Chamber's opinion that the student, who suffers from heart and kidney disease, is "not fit to remain in prison," as well as Supreme Court precedents, were once again of no avail.

In a statement on his social media account, Ayık's lawyer Göksun Canberk Uluğ said, "A decision was made to continue her detention... 135 pages of e-pulse records, epicrisis health reports, the Istanbul Medical Chamber's opinion that she is 'not fit to remain in prison,' and General Assembly of Criminal Chambers and Supreme Court precedents—none of them worked again."
Uluğ added, "Her file is still at the Ministry of Justice; even 'prosecution permission' has not been issued. She has been held in prison for a month while ill for a crime for which prosecution permission has not even been granted."
