New Judicial Package submitted to Parliament; first statement from MHP's Feti Yıldız: 'Now is the time'
The 11th Judicial Package submitted to Parliament by the AKP introduces new sanctions for various offenses, ranging from blocking traffic to firing guns into the air; MHP's Feti Yıldız announced that the regulation will provide a path for the release of a total of 115 thousand people.
A new phase has been reached in the ongoing judicial reform process. The AKP has submitted the 11th Judicial Package, which contains comprehensive provisions, to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. The package includes significant changes across a wide spectrum, from execution regulations to sentence increases.
CONTENT OF THE PACKAGE
The new regulation includes various articles such as prescribing prison sentences for blocking traffic and increasing penalties for those who fire guns into the air at weddings, matches, and similar environments. Additionally, within the framework of provisions regarding the execution regime, the package includes regulations that will pave the way for the release of thousands of people.
STATEMENT FROM FETI YILDIZ
MHP Deputy Chairman Feti Yıldız shared details regarding the content of the package in a post on his social media account. Yıldız recalled his post from November 22, in which he pointed out that "inequality must be eliminated" in execution regulations.
Yıldız stated that basing the previous regulation on the date the verdict became final rather than the date of the crime created a serious inequality, and emphasized that a step has been taken in the new package to correct this.
"COVID REGULATION INCLUDED IN THE PACKAGE"
In his statement, Feti Yıldız noted that the temporary execution reduction regulation introduced during the COVID-19 period has also been re-included in the package as part of the 11th Judicial Package.
According to Yıldız's statements:
55 thousand people will benefit in the first stage,
And 60 thousand people will benefit within six months.
Thus, a total of 115 thousand convicts will gain the opportunity for release with the new execution provisions introduced.
"NOW IS THE TIME..."
Recalling his promise made on the parliamentary floor in previous speeches that "the inequality would be eliminated," Yıldız used the phrase, "Yes, now is the time..."
