New Minister Memişoğlu's 'decency and etiquette' circular back on the agenda: 'Dress according to faith'

Kemal Memişoğlu, who was appointed to the Ministry of Health to replace Fahrettin Koca, has come to the fore with a circular he sent to healthcare workers in 2019. The circular in question requests that healthcare workers dress in a manner 'appropriate to decency, etiquette, and faith.'

President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's decision has placed Kemal Memişoğlu in the seat of the Ministry of Health, replacing Fahrettin Koca.

A circular prepared by Memişoğlu, who previously served as the Istanbul Provincial Health Director, for healthcare workers has come back to the agenda. 

DRESS CODE CIRCULAR RECALLED

The circular in question, dated December 11, 2019, contains the following statements: 

“With the transformation in health, it has been reported in our referenced letter that clothing standards for all healthcare personnel (nurses, midwives, health officers, health technicians) were determined by the Office Approval dated 13/02/2019 and numbered 87300753, in accordance with clothing standards decided upon by the customs of our healthcare workers who work above world standards; that these standards must be followed for both the development of the personnel's sense of belonging and the prestige of our institution providing service; that they may be adapted when necessary in ways appropriate to decency, etiquette, and faith while preserving the main model, pattern, and colors; and that all healthcare personnel (nurses, midwives, health officers, health technicians) must comply with the clothing standards by the beginning of 2020, and the specified period has been extended until 30.06.2020."
