New post from the RTÜK President, a controversial figure in recent days: He did not back down from his words!
RTÜK President Ebubekir Şahin had warned television stations, alleging that main news bulletins contained violent content and biased commentary. Following the backlash, Şahin issued a new statement, arguing that RTÜK acts within the framework of its legal authority, not under pressure from social media.
RTÜK President Şahin made a statement on his social media account regarding the warning he issued to television stations yesterday.
Ebubekir Şahin claimed that RTÜK carries out its duties with the authority granted by law, not through social media pressure or perception operations.
Ebubekir Şahin stated the following:
"As RTÜK, we issued a general warning to our broadcasting organizations yesterday regarding main news bulletins without specifying any channel names. Some of our media organizations took this warning too personally and consciously portrayed the issue as 'censorship of the press.' Our Constitution guarantees freedom of the press but does not grant infinite freedom. (The provisions of Articles 26 and 27 of the Constitution apply to the limitation of press freedom.) Furthermore, Article 8 of Law No. 6112 clearly explains the rules that our broadcasting organizations must follow and the sanctions to be applied in case these rules are violated.
It should be known that RTÜK carries out its duties with the authority vested in it by law, not through social media pressure or perception operations. It will continue to act with this responsibility from now on. It will never allow broadcasting that is contrary to general morality, contains violence, negatively affects the mental and physical development of our children and youth, targets our family institution, violates the privacy of private life, insults individuals and institutions, praises crime and criminals, or contains manipulation and disinformation, as well as intentional and biased reporting. Necessary sanctions will be applied at the highest level to our broadcasting organizations that violate these rules."

EBUBEKİR ŞAHİN HAD DRAWN CRITICISM
In his statement yesterday, Ebubekir Şahin had said, "Examinations conducted by RTÜK monitoring experts have determined that main news bulletins contain a significant amount of violent content and that news anchors are making intentional comments far from impartiality," adding that "while successful work is evident in our country in many fields such as energy, defense industry, domestic and national technology, art, culture, and sports, 'we are burned,' 'we are finished,' 'we are ruined' style journalism that instills pessimism is of no use to anyone," and announced that the highest level of sanctions would be applied to such broadcasts.
