A new race between Ekrem İmamoğlu and Mansur Yavaş! Claims that 'both names want it'

Turkey has left the March 31 Local Elections behind. Following the elections, which the CHP concluded with a victory as the leading party, the leadership of the Union of Municipalities of Turkey (TBB) will also change.

The management of the union, whose budget consists of shares deducted from municipalities but which has been criticized for the “partisan use” of its resources, will be renewed after the local election results are finalized. It is noted that CHP-run municipalities hold the majority to determine the president in the union election, which is expected to be held within the next 1-2 months.

“IT WILL NOT CAUSE A CRISIS”

According to reports from Gazete Duvar’s political insiders, it is being discussed that both Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş want the presidency of the Union of Municipalities of Turkey, a position previously held by former Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Kadir Topbaş. Party officials, when asked “Will this situation become a matter of crisis?”, respond by saying, “No, it will not; they will find a solution between themselves and reach an agreement.”

Stating that although more than half of its budget is deducted from CHP-run municipalities, nearly all of its resources were transferred to People's Alliance municipalities for years, party officials say, “The Union of Municipalities of Turkey will also change. The majority may be in the opposition, but it will transform into a structure where all parties are represented fairly in proportion to their strength and resources are distributed equitably.”
