New statement from AKP's Şamil Tayyar, who was allocated a post-earthquake residence in Gaziantep!
Former AKP MP Şamil Tayyar, who was allocated a post-earthquake residence in Gaziantep, announced on his social media account following the backlash that he has 'waived his rights'.
AFAD’s Gaziantep Earthquake Housing Lottery, held on February 4, resulted in a post-earthquake residence being allocated to Şamil Tayyar, who served as an MP for the AKP for 3 terms.
It was announced that a 2+1 apartment in the İslahiye district of Gaziantep had been allocated to Tayyar.

HE SAID "MY BROTHER WILL LIVE THERE"
Confirming that he had been allocated a post-earthquake residence, Şamil Tayyar stated in his remarks following the lottery, “We applied as a right-holder, and an 85-square-meter 2+1 house was allocated. My brother will live there.”
The fact that Şamil Tayyar was allocated a post-earthquake residence while thousands of earthquake victims were waiting in line caused public backlash.
NEW STATEMENT FROM ŞAMİL TAYYAR
Following the backlash, Tayyar announced that he has ‘waived his rights’.
In a statement on his social media account, Şamil Tayyar included the following remarks;
"I explained the incident in all its aspects with good intentions and sincerity.
The house that was destroyed in the earthquake was a house I bought years ago, acting as a kind of ‘shelter’ for needy family members to live in.
Because there was not a single person in the family bearing the surname ‘Tayyar’ who owned a house, land, vineyard, or garden.
My father, my siblings, and my nieces and nephews lived there for years depending on their needs, and they were in this house when the earthquake struck.
Since the house belonged to me and we had no other house in İslahiye, I made the application.
Unfortunately, the 85-square-meter town house, which was allocated in the lottery and would have been sold for a price, turned into a matter of political exploitation.
Even if it is unfair, I do not want this exploitation to cast a shadow over the efforts of our President and our government, nor do I want even a single friend who supports us to have any doubts in their heart.
For this reason, I have waived my right to ownership.
I hope that the curse of those in need who are living in containers will haunt the exploiters for the rest of their lives."
