New statement from Burcu Köksal, who made headlines with her remarks on the DEM Party!
CHP Afyonkarahisar Mayoral Candidate Burcu Köksal, whose remarks regarding the DEM Party became a major topic of discussion, stated at a press conference, "When I become mayor, the doors of the municipality will be wide open to everyone who is bound to the Republic of Turkey by citizenship, regardless of their ethnic origin, sect, or views, and who loves this country and defends its unity and indivisible integrity."
Republican People's Party (CHP) Afyonkarahisar Mayoral Candidate Burcu Köksal's remarks regarding the DEM Party continue to remain on the political agenda.
Following the statement, which also caused controversy within the CHP, Köksal held a press conference.
"When I become mayor, I will not govern the municipality with the DEM Party or HÜDAPAR" said Köksal, "No one should cut, paste, or cherry-pick my sentences to derive other meanings. When I become mayor, the doors of the municipality will be wide open to everyone who is bound to the Republic of Turkey by citizenship, regardless of their ethnic origin, sect, or views, and who loves this country and defends its unity and indivisible integrity." she stated.
WHAT DID BURCU KÖKSAL SAY?
In a speech at a rally in Afyon attended by party leader Özgür Özel, Burcu Köksal had said, "When I am elected, the doors of the Afyonkarahisar Municipality will be open to every political party except the DEM Party."
While Özgür Özel referred to Köksal's words as a 'slip of the tongue,' Köksal denied this, and Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu reacted to Köksal by saying, "She will either find herself another job or another party."
