New statement from Ece Güner, who resigned from the İYİ Party!

Lawyer Ece Güner, who resigned after the İYİ Party rejected a cooperation proposal from the CHP by stating that "Istanbul is the heart of Turkey," has made a new statement.

Sharing on her X account, Güner explained the process by saying, "My dear friends, I do not want to prolong this matter. "I AM NOT OCCUPYING ANY POSITION"

Güner used the following expressions:

I am not "occupying" any position: I am not a member of parliament. [Although I was a candidate from a rank that would not be elected according to polls, I worked with all my might in the elections. Everyone knows this].

I am not a candidate for any mayoral position; I will not be.

I did not make this decision for any other position, expectation, or benefit. It was a principled decision.

I am not "moving" to any other political party. I will never leave politics, but for now, I will continue my struggle as an independent lawyer who is against the "one-man system" and committed to Republican values and Atatürk's principles.

Entering an election freely and independently is, of course, every party's right. In our country, there are 30 Metropolitan, 51 Provincial, and 1,389 other mayoralties. My suggestion was cooperation in the 5-6 Metropolitan cities where there is a risk of losing to the ruling party, or at least in Istanbul and Ankara.

Local (partial) election cooperation is not an "alliance": Each party will manage the municipality it wins itself.

After the elections, every party will have exactly 4 years to explain its own views.

There is a "proportional" election system in parliamentary elections; cooperation may not be necessary. However, in local elections, the one who is ahead wins. Otherwise, why are the AK Party, MHP, and even Yeniden Refah negotiating so much and looking for cooperation solutions? Why?

The most important issue for me is: To improve the morale of opposition voters, who suffered a great "moral collapse" in the May elections, to some extent; to save them from the feeling that "everything is completely over." Otherwise, democracy will die completely. (For example, in the 2021 parliamentary elections in Russia, only half of the public voted: The public "gave up" and lost hope in politics and change). In my resignation letter, I tried to explain the special importance of Istanbul in this context (I will not repeat it here). I advocated for cooperation so as not to risk the very difficult victory achieved in Istanbul and Ankara after 25 years.
