ECONOMIC CRISIS ALLEGATIONS

In a statement from the Communist Party of the Peoples of Spain (PCPE), it was noted that Pyongyang had informed the Spanish administration of the decision through diplomatic channels. It was learned that North Korea's embassy in Rome, Italy, will take over the operations of the closing Madrid Embassy, while no official statement has been made by Pyongyang regarding the matter. By the end of the process, it is expected that approximately 25 percent of Pyongyang's diplomatic missions worldwide will be terminated.

According to reports in the South Korean press citing government sources, it is alleged that Pyongyang decided to close its diplomatic missions abroad in the face of an economic crisis caused by international sanctions.

FAREWELL VISITS ANNOUNCED

The North Korean official news agency recently announced that the country's embassies in Uganda and Angola had closed. It was stated that North Korean Ambassador to Luanda Jo Pyong-chol paid a farewell visit to Angolan President Joao Lourenço on Monday, and that Ambassador to Kampala Jong Tong Hak had also visited Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni for the last time.

North Korea is expected to close approximately 25 percent of its missions in various countries around the world. North Korea, which has diplomatic relations with a total of 159 countries, is known to have had 53 diplomatic missions abroad before the embassy closures.

Heavy international economic sanctions are imposed on North Korea, which continues its nuclear weapons and ballistic missile program despite United Nations (UN) Security Council resolutions and the reactions of the international community.
