Notable details on secularism and asset declarations in MHP's new party program

The Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) held its 14th Ordinary Congress on March 17.

At the congress, the party program adopted in 2009 was repealed and a new party program was published.

The program included notable findings and proposals.

According to a report by Selda Güneysu from Cumhuriyet, the MHP's new party program underlines that “parliamentary immunity should be tied to reasonable principles that the public conscience will accept.”

ASSET DECLARATION DETAIL

While the assets of Turgut Altınok, the joint Ankara Metropolitan Municipality mayoral candidate of the People's Alliance, were debated for days in the public eye before the local elections, the party program also included notable statements.

A provision was added to the program stating, “The disclosure of asset declarations of members of parliament, mayors, chairmen and board members serving in the central management, provincial and district organizations of political parties, and high-level public officials, both before and after their term of office, will be ensured.”

EMPHASIS ON SECULARISM

On the other hand, the emphasis on 'secularism' in the party program did not go unnoticed.

The program states, “Secularism, which holds value to the extent that it ensures citizens live together in brotherhood without ignoring their beliefs, is the guarantee of national unity, integrity, and freedom of religion and conscience.”

Furthermore, it emphasizes that “the principle of separation of powers between the legislative, executive, and judiciary is the life insurance of a democratic state of law,” and that it is of vital importance that the duties and powers of the legislative, executive, and judiciary are balanced in the most rational way and executed in a harmonious manner.

The MHP also added the issue of “irregular migration” and refugees to its new party program.

The program included the following statements:

“Naturalization practices will be carried out on the basis of national interests, social peace, and transparency.”
