Notable development in the CHP convention investigation... One of the witnesses confessed: 'I stole the document'

The investigation launched into the 38th Ordinary Convention of the Republican People's Party (CHP) over allegations of "irregularities" is expanding. A new development has occurred in the investigation, which was opened on the claim that the "will of the delegates was corrupted" during the convention process.

In this context, the testimony of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and CHP presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu was also taken at the Marmara Prison, where he is currently detained.

Remarkable details were included in the interrogation transcript dated April 28, which BirGün obtained. It was learned that in his statement to the prison prosecutor, İmamoğlu criticized the contradictory and abstract statements of the witnesses.

SURPRISING THEFT CONFESSION FROM A WITNESS

One of the most striking statements to enter the investigation file belongs to witness M.A.B. M.A.B. stated that he met and became close with the sibling of a CHP provincial head in Istanbul during the convention period. The witness, who noted that he would pick up and drop off the family's young daughter from school, frequently entered and exited the house, and even possessed a key to the home, said, "I stole a document from the house."

According to his claim, the document in question bore the signatures of Ekrem İmamoğlu and CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, and contained a statement indicating that "money sent by a fugitive FETÖ member had been received."

CLAIMS IN THE FORM OF 'I HEARD, I THINK' ARE IN THE FILE

Another witness in the file was T.E., who claimed to be a journalist. Without providing any concrete information, T.E. made the following allegations using only phrases like "I heard" and "I think":

"Ali İhsan Aktaş distributed money to many convention delegates and, in return, received tenders from the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and Beşiktaş Municipality."

"Şaban Sevinç took part in these operations."

"A vehicle belonging to the Beşiktaş Municipality was allocated to Altan Sancar."

While all these allegations were directed at İmamoğlu, he responded to them all collectively.

İMAMOĞLU: NOT WITNESSES, BUT MEMORIZED FIGURES

Ekrem İmamoğlu vehemently rejected the allegations in his statement to the prison prosecutor. Emphasizing that the individuals heard as witnesses lacked any legal basis, İmamoğlu made the following assessments:

"Three or five names, who are called witnesses but are not witnesses, appear in a new file every time. It is clear that these individuals have been tasked by someone to construct a new slander. It is incompatible with the law for these people to be considered credible witnesses without questioning the centers that have them memorize irrational statements and send them to the prosecutor's office."

"THE JUDICIARY IS BEING MADE A PART OF POLITICAL SCENARIOS"

Emphasizing that such attempts, which cast a shadow over the independence of the judiciary, harm society, İmamoğlu continued his words as follows:

"It is clear that the judiciary is being made a figurehead for irrational and unscrupulous scenarios. This process, which has cost our nation dearly, will result in everyone who turns the law into a political cudgel becoming a partner in this crime."
