Numan Kurtulmuş sets a date for the 'opening process commission'

Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş stated that they have taken significant steps at the NATO Speakers of Parliament Summit to convey Turkey's arguments and position.

Speaking to Turkish journalists following his contacts in Brussels, Kurtulmuş stated that issues such as increasing NATO's security force in Europe and supporting Ukraine formed the main agenda of the summit. Emphasizing that Turkey defends Ukraine's territorial integrity, Kurtulmuş noted that they are striving for a solution that respects human rights.

Kurtulmuş also criticized Israel's attacks on Iran, stating that such actions are unacceptable and must be brought to an end. He expressed that a social reaction against Israel's attacks has begun in Europe and that the West must leave behind its double standards.

Touching upon the defense industry, Kurtulmuş stated that Turkey must ensure its own defense. Regarding NATO's proposal to spend 5 percent of the gross domestic product on defense, he emphasized that Turkey must continue its success in the defense industry.

WORK MUST BE DONE BEFORE THE SUMMER RECESS

Kurtulmuş drew attention to the importance of the commission planned to be established in Parliament within the scope of the "Terror-Free Turkey" process. Stating that Turkey must leave the terror issue behind, Kurtulmuş expressed that social support is significant and that it is essential for parliament to get involved in this process. He said he hopes that the work will begin before Parliament enters its summer recess.

Addressing the debates in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Kurtulmuş stated that different political views must be able to talk together. Emphasizing that politics is a field of negotiation and struggle, Kurtulmuş stated that the events occurring in Parliament do not befit Turkish democracy.

Finally, stating that NATO has been unable to provide a common response to the threats it faces, Kurtulmuş said that NATO should also focus on issues of establishing peace.
