Objections by AKP and MHP accepted in province won by CHP
In Kütahya, where the CHP won with 29.25% of the vote, the District Election Board has accepted the request from the AKP and MHP to recount the votes. It was learned that the recount will begin today at 14:00.
Turkey has left the March 31 Local Elections behind. However, objections by political parties in some provinces and districts continue.
While CHP candidate Eyüp Kahveci won the election in Kütahya with 29.25% of the vote, the MHP filed a request for the cancellation of the election and a full recount of all votes.
The AKP, meanwhile, requested a recount of a large number of invalid votes. The District Election Board accepted the requests from both the MHP and the AKP, deciding to recount all invalid votes across 549 ballot boxes.
It was stated that the recount will begin today at 14:00.
FIRST STATEMENT FROM CHP'S WINNING CANDIDATE
CHP candidate Eyüp Kahveci stated that the reason for the AKP and MHP's objections is an inability to digest the will of the people.
Speaking to TELE1, Kahveci made the following remarks:
“The AK Party had an objection. Votes were cast in a total of 549 ballot boxes. The District Election Board had made a decision to recount invalid votes in 125 ballot boxes. As of today, the Provincial Election Board convened and, evaluating the joint objections of the AK Party and the MHP, expressed a will to recount all invalid votes in all ballot boxes in Kütahya. There are approximately five thousand 100 invalid votes in 549 ballot boxes, and a process will be initiated for the re-tabulation of these votes. Here, the receipt of the certificate of election is being delayed with baseless objections. There is a failure to recognize the will of the people here. In this context, constant delays are being made regarding the handover. We have also filed our objection to the Supreme Election Council. There is a will that has emerged here. Meanwhile, there is an inability to digest the fact that the Republican People's Party was elected in Kütahya, the city of foundation and liberation, after 74 years, by the people expressing their will."
WHAT HAPPENED IN THE KÜTAHYA ELECTION?
In the March 31 local elections in Kütahya, CHP candidate Eyüp Kahveci came in first with 29.25% and 40 thousand 712 votes, MHP candidate Alim Işık came in second with 29.25% and 40 thousand 110 votes, and AKP candidate Kamil Saraçoğlu came in third with 27.71% and 37 thousand 992 votes.
