Ömer Faruk Eminağaoğlu announces his candidacy

Ömer Faruk Eminağaoğlu, the former President of the Union of Judges and Prosecutors (YARSAV) and a member of the CHP since 2015, had previously applied for parliamentary candidacy for Istanbul and Artvin.

ANNOUNCED HIS CANDIDACY

Eminağaoğlu has announced his candidacy for Çankaya. Alper Taşdelen currently serves as the mayor of Çankaya, which is known as a stronghold of the CHP.

WHO IS ÖMER FARUK EMİNAĞAOĞLU?

He was born in Artvin in 1967. He graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Law in 1988. He served as a judge and public prosecutor in various parts of the country and at the Court of Cassation. He currently practices law in Ankara.

He founded the Union of Judges and Prosecutors (YARSAV), which was a first in the organization of judges and prosecutors in Turkey. He served as the founding president and, for a period, as the president of the union, known by its acronym YARSAV.

He served as the founding president and, for a period, as the president of YARGI-SEN, the first trade union for judges and prosecutors in Turkey. After this union was closed, he took part in the establishment of the Judges' Union, which remains the only trade union for judges and public prosecutors, and served as its founding president and, for a period, as its president.

He served as the President of the High Disciplinary Board of the Atatürkist Thought Association. He has held positions in the bodies of many democratic mass organizations. He continues to hold memberships in many democratic mass organizations.

THE SADULLAH ERGİN INCIDENT

He was the only public prosecutor to state that Hrant Dink was innocent in the case where Hrant Dink was accused.

While continuing his struggle for law and democracy, and while serving as a judge and prosecutor, he became the most prosecuted and investigated judge and prosecutor due to the pressures created by the AKP and FETÖ. In this context, during the period when Sadullah Ergin was Minister of Justice, he was the public prosecutor who fought most against actions aimed at eliminating judicial independence, and consequently, the one who clashed most with Sadullah Ergin and received the most penalties, including exile.

As it later emerged during the FETÖ trials, he was the only person who could not be elected to the board of directors during the YARSAV general assembly, which took place under the direct orders of Fetullah Gülen and the influence of the AKP during this period.
