Opposition's proposals on industry, retirement, and disasters rejected in the Turkish Parliament

In the Turkish Parliament General Assembly, group proposals submitted by opposition parties to be added to the agenda were rejected by the votes of the AKP and MHP. During the General Assembly, the YENİ Party's proposal on "industrialization, investment, and competitiveness in Turkey," the DEM Party's proposal on the "retirement system," the CHP's proposal on "vocational training," the İYİ Party's proposal on "exceptional civil service," and the Yeni Yol Party's proposal on "floods and water overflows" were discussed separately.

Following the discussions, the votes held resulted in the rejection of the opposition parties' proposals, while the AKP's proposal to prioritize the Draft Law on Certain Investment Funds Decided to be Liquidated on the General Assembly agenda was accepted.

Yeni Yol Party Group Deputy Chairman Selçuk Özdağ recalled the flood that occurred in Istanbul during his speech on his party's proposal. Arguing that rainwater routes in the city have been covered with concrete, Özdağ stated that a comprehensive study must be conducted against the risk of flooding in Istanbul.

Özdağ stated, "A flood master plan must be prepared for Istanbul. Rainwater lines and sewage systems must be separated. Flood danger and risk maps must also be created. Data sharing between institutions must be strengthened."

"THOSE RESPONSIBLE MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE"

İYİ Party Mersin Deputy Burhanettin Kocamaz also stated that citizens are paying the price for unplanned urbanization. Demanding that those who permit construction in stream beds be identified, Kocamaz argued that infrastructure investments were not made on time and that rainwater systems were not prepared for disasters.

CHP İstanbul Deputy Yüksel Mansur Kılınç alleged that zoning crimes were committed in Istanbul. Stating that the zoning plans for the Ayazağa neighborhood in the Sarıyer district, which was affected by the flood, had been changed, Kılınç expressed that those responsible for the consequences of the flood must be held accountable.

"CENTRAL GOVERNMENT AND MUNICIPALITIES MUST WORK TOGETHER"

DEM Party Istanbul Deputy Keziban Konukcu Kok recalled that streams overflowed in Esenyurt and Ayazağa, stating that calls of "do not open stream beds to zoning" have been made for years. YENİ Party Istanbul Deputy Ayşe Sibel Yanıkömeroğlu stated that narrowing stream beds increases the risk of flooding.

Drawing attention to the need for urban transformation in Ayazağa, Yanıkömeroğlu requested that measures be taken in risky areas. Emphasizing that Istanbul must have an up-to-date flood and rainwater plan, Yanıkömeroğlu stated that the central government and municipalities must work together.
