Örsan Öymen's statement on his Party Assembly candidacy: 'If I had been on Özgür Özel's key list...'

Prof. Dr. Örsan Kunter Öymen, who was a candidate for the Party Assembly (PM) and received 584 votes but was not elected, released a statement on his X (Twitter) account.

Öymen stated the following:

"ANNOUNCEMENT TO THE PUBLIC:
I was nominated as a candidate for the Party Assembly from the Science, Management, and Culture Platform list at the CHP's 21st Extraordinary Congress; I received 584 of the 1,107 valid votes from the congress delegates, which is 53%; however, this rate was not sufficient for me to be elected to the Party Assembly. First of all, I would like to thank all the CHP Congress delegates who voted for and supported me. If I had been on the key list of Chairman Özgür Özel, which was accepted by the delegates without any dissent, I would have been elected to the Party Assembly. Indeed, just as there were those who received more votes than I did, there were also those who received fewer votes than I did but were elected to the Party Assembly because they were on this key list.
Ultimately, idealist people like us, who engage in principled politics on an ideological basis and possess merit, do not need such positions, duties, or titles in the party to exist in life; but the party and the country need people like us, or at least they should. In that respect, I am saddened for my party, of which I have been a member for decades, and for my country.
It does not seem possible to achieve a positive result without the democratization of the delegate and party management structure. For this reason, we fought as much as our strength and resources allowed both at the 38th Ordinary Congress in 2023 and at the Statute Congress in 2024, but we could not achieve a result there either. I would like to say, 'Our most beautiful days are the ones we have not yet lived,' but it is difficult for me to even say that right now. With the hope that this is a momentary and temporary feeling of despair, I send my love and greetings to all the rank-and-file members and voters of the CHP. I know that I have much more in common with them."

Prof. Dr. Örsan Öymen had announced his candidacy for Chairman before the CHP's 38th Ordinary General Congress in 2024, but did not ultimately run.
