Özgür Özel announces his pledge for housewives! A project drawing attention before the election

YENİ Party Chairman Özgür Özel met with women in Kayseri, where he made assessments regarding the economy, daycare centers, social support, school safety, and healthcare services. Speaking in the Eskişehir Bağları neighborhood, Özel said that the most frequent complaints in the neighborhood were about the cost of living, the burden of rent, and unemployment.

Drawing attention to the squeeze caused by pension salaries and rents, Özel stated that the purchasing power of citizens has declined. Noting that women complain about not being able to find work, Özel said that in some families, children and elderly individuals are also forced to work.

Regarding complaints about the high cost of daycare centers, Özel emphasized the social support capacity of local governments. Stating that his party has set a target of 1,000 daycare centers in 5 years for their municipalities, Özel claimed that nearly 800 daycare centers have been completed to date. Özel stated that if they come to power, they will build a "daycare center in every neighborhood."

INSURANCE PLEDGE FOR HOUSEWIVES

The most prominent topic at the meeting was the insurance pledge for housewives. Stating that they are working on a citizenship basic income project, Özel said that in cases where this support is provided to a family, it will be paid directly to the housewife.

In the project he described by saying, "We were going to announce it during the election, but I let it slip yesterday at a women's meeting in Kocaeli," Özel stated that the insurance premiums of women who do not have access to daycare, cannot find work, or are unable to work due to caring for the elderly, disabled, or children at home will be covered by the state.

The YENİ Party leader said, "The state will pay the insurance of the housewife, the woman who works at home and does the housework; housewives will retire by working at home." Özel defined this as one of the most important social security steps for women.

Özel also described an "umbrella" model for the citizenship basic income. He said they are planning separate support for the disabled, families with children with special needs, those undertaking elderly care at home, families with many children, and citizens facing different difficulties.

Regarding questions about young people working within the scope of MESEM, Özel argued that the current practice is problematic in terms of both labor exploitation and occupational safety. Criticizing the fact that the apprenticeship period is not counted as the start of insurance, Özel also drew attention to accidents in dangerous job sectors.

Announcing a project on school safety, Özel said that former specialized sergeants could be assigned to schools after receiving pedagogical and school safety training. Özel stated that they aim to employ 65 thousand people in the first phase and 110 thousand in total within this scope.

Listening to complaints about healthcare services at the meeting, Özel argued that problems such as appointments in hospitals, the shortage of specialist doctors, drug price differences, and co-payments have increased. Özel stated that if they come to power, they will expand the social support models they claim to have implemented in municipalities through public institutions.
