Özgür Özel clarifies 'paid military service' remarks: 'Getting medical discharge reports for their own children...'
Clarifying his remarks regarding paid military service, CHP leader Özgür Özel stated that he was referring to the family of AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel was in the Soma district of Manisa yesterday (March 2) as part of his local election campaign.
Özel's remarks, "We are asking for votes from those who love Turkey, not from those who run away to paid military service, but from those who are willing to give their lives for this homeland if necessary," had drawn criticism.
Sharing a post on his X account, Özel clarified his words.
Özel wrote the following:
"Those who do paid military service are of course also children of this nation, just as those who do regular military service are... You get medical discharge reports for your own children, have them do paid service, and then you engage in politics over someone else's poor child... That is what I am asking about, that!"
