Özgür Özel confident for the party congress: 'I will leave that hall hand in hand, shoulder to shoulder with our 1200 delegates'

CHP Group Chairman Özgür Özel, who announced his candidacy for the CHP chairmanship, held a press conference at the CHP Provincial Coordination Center established in the Akasya neighborhood following the destruction of the CHP Provincial Headquarters building in the February 6 earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş. He wished God's mercy upon those who lost their lives in the earthquakes and extended his condolences to their families.

Stating that they have been visiting provinces regarding the congress process and that they came to Hatay as part of this, Özel said that the city suffered a great loss in the earthquake.

Noting that he received information about the work to be done in the city during his visit to Metropolitan Mayor Lütfü Savaş, Özel said, "It is the duty of all of us to keep Hatay on the agenda by reviving this city, which Atatürk entrusted to us, while protecting its historical texture, preserving its cultural structure, maintaining its significance in terms of holy religions, protecting the culture of living side by side, and without allowing its demographics to be interfered with."

Özel stated that they will hold the 38th Ordinary Congress on November 4-5 and continued as follows:

"By rejuvenating, uniting, strengthening, increasing our faith, shaking off the lethargy upon us, and looking to the future with hope, we will leave this congress hall in unity and solidarity, without losing a single person, having shown and continuing to show the necessary respect and loyalty to our esteemed Chairman. Even if I enter that hall with 41 provincial chairs, I will leave with 81. I will leave that hall hand in hand, shoulder to shoulder with our 1200 elected delegates. I am saying it here because I think it has a symbolic importance and to show what we will do afterwards: as the chairman, I will make my first visit to Hatay on the day I receive my mandate."

Following the press statement, Özel met with party members.
