Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel has arrived in İzmir as part of the "Defending the National Will" rallies, which were launched following the arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.
Özel was welcomed by party members at Adnan Menderes Airport before the rally. Among those greeting the CHP leader were CHP deputy chairmen, İzmir deputies, mayors, provincial administrators, and party members.

In İzmir, one of the key stops of the rallies that the CHP is holding across Turkey under the banner of "Defending the National Will," the event has been given special significance as it coincides with the May 19 Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day.
On the 106th anniversary of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk landing in Samsun on May 19, 1919, to launch the War of Independence, Özgür Özel is expected to address the public at Gündoğdu Square at 19:19.
