Özgür Özel: 'The Madımak case cannot be subject to a statute of limitations'
A memorial march was held on the 31st anniversary of the Madımak Massacre, in which 33 people were burned to death in Sivas. The crowd gathered in front of the PSAKD Sivas Branch and began the march. Speaking after the march, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel said, "This case cannot be subject to a statute of limitations."
Those who lost their lives in the Madımak Massacre, where 33 people died after the Madımak Hotel was set on fire during the Pir Sultan Abdal Festivals held in Sivas on July 2, 1993, are being commemorated in Sivas on the 31st anniversary of the tragedy.
The memorial program began at 09:00 in the morning.
The crowd gathered at the Pir Sultan Abdal Cultural Association Sivas Branch began their march.
Families of those who lost their lives in the massacre took their place at the front of the procession.
Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel, DEM Party Co-Chairman Tuncay Bakırhan, Left Party Board of Presidents member İlknur Başer, TIP Chairman Erkan Baş, and Labor Party Chairman Seyit Aslan also attended the commemoration.
The crowd marching to the Madımak Hotel is chanting, "Those who burned in Sivas are those who founded the AKP," most frequently.
"THIS CASE CANNOT BE SUBJECT TO A STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS"
Following the march, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel stated to members of the press, "This case cannot be subject to a statute of limitations."
Özel added, "We maintain our hope and expectation for humanity. We attach importance to this decision being rendered based on crimes against humanity," he said.
