Court of Cassation's 3rd Chamber files criminal complaint against Constitutional Court members; Özgür Özel responds: 'We will resist in the streets and squares'

The 3rd Criminal Chamber of the Court of Cassation has filed a criminal complaint against the members of the Constitutional Court (AYM) who issued a 'violation ruling' regarding TİP MP Can Atalay.

Following the Court of Cassation's announcement, the CHP held an emergency meeting. After a closed-door group meeting that lasted over 2 hours, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel made a press statement.

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel stated in his address to his party's group in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) following the meeting, "This is a blatant attempted coup."

''WE CALL ON ALL OUR PEOPLE TO RESIST THIS COUP''

Özel's statements are as follows:

"This decision is a blatant attempted coup. Of course, the decision creates a grievance for Can Atalay. However, it is not a decision limited to Can Atalay. It is an attempt to abolish the Constitution. The decision is against not only Can Atalay, but the people of Hatay and the TBMM. The decision is an attempted coup against the Constitution. As the main opposition party, we will resist this.

The Court of Cassation's decision is an attempted coup against the legal personality of the Constitutional Court and the TBMM. It is a crisis of the People's Alliance, which is in conflict within itself. It is a crisis of the conflict within the AKP. As the main opposition party, we will resist this.

We will call Mr. Numan Kurtulmuş by phone tomorrow. I invite the chairs of all groups to hold an advisory board meeting tomorrow. If this meeting does not take place, we will request an appointment from Numan Kurtulmuş.

The CHP will bring the issue of justice to the agenda every hour that Parliament is open, and when Parliament is closed, at least 20 MPs will continue the justice vigil.

We call on all our people to resist against this coup. We will resist in the streets and in the squares. We will not surrender to this lawlessness.''
