Özgür Özel recounted what happened in the courtroom: 'Akın Gürlek's hands are shaking, his speech is slurring'

CHP leader Özgür Özel appeared before the cameras following the trial of CHP Youth Branch President Cem Aydın and described the tension that took place in the courtroom.

"He is so agitated that his hands are shaking and his speech is slurring. Akın Gürlek's state of mind has been reflected in the person representing him here, his lawyer," Özel said, continuing as follows:

"By the third sentence, he said, 'Oh, Akın Gürlek...' and then added, 'I won't finish the sentence.' Our Istanbul Deputy Engin Altay completed it, saying, 'He was going to say, may a stone fall on your head.' He even admitted himself that that is what he was going to say."

'OUR FRIENDS REPELLED HIM'

While the judge was asking 'Who said that?', he stood up insolently and turned toward our side, and our friends repelled him. Of course they would repel him. He thinks he has immunity here, so he thinks he can't be challenged.

From between four gendarmes, he sent a message from inside saying, 'I apologize to the Chairman.' An apology made in private for an offense committed in public is invalid."

Özgür Özel continued his remarks:

"Even though Cem is not under arrest, they brought him to the courtroom here so that the youth wouldn't show interest, but our youth are here. The trial has taken an extraordinary turn. The reason is that the perpetrators are in a state of panic. We are saying this regarding Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek and the lawyer he sent here."

I have immunity, so they cannot touch me, yet they are putting our Youth Branch President on trial. Do you think they will let you judge him? These are shameful acts. We have seen once again here that Akın Gürlek cannot send deputies here to put CHP statements on trial.

(Akın Gürlek) is a person who tries to suppress those whom Tayyip Erdoğan cannot bend to his will through the judiciary. He is supposedly a hero of the fight against terrorism because he put Selahattin Demirtaş in prison. Now they are trying to get Demirtaş released.

We hold the moral high ground. We are walking with the power of the majority. This evening, we invite everyone who stands for justice to our Başakşehir rally at 20:30.
