Özgür Özel responds to 'father's house' criticism: Our intention is never to make the party a party of men

Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel responded to criticism he received regarding the 'father's house' (baba evi) expression he uses for his party.

A social media user named Hülya Gülbahar asked CHP leader Özel: "Ö. Özel and Deniz Yücel are repeatedly defining the CHP as 'Father's house, father's hearth.' While #EqualRepresentation is being discussed, this discourse is contrary to equality and is a discourse that declares the party a party of men. Shouldn't it be changed as soon as possible?"

RESPONSE FROM ÖZEL: IT IS USED BECAUSE IT IS ATATÜRK'S PARTY

Quoting Gülbahar's post, Özgür Özel replied: "Ms. Gülbahar; We are very sensitive about equal representation. For this reason, half of the shadow cabinet we announced is women, and half is men. The 'father's house' definition is used because the founder of our party is Atatürk, and our party is Atatürk's party." Özel concluded his words as follows:

"This definition of ours ends with the phrase, 'The title deed of our party is registered to Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.' Our intention is never to make the party a party of men. We set out on this path to rejuvenate our party and ensure that more women participate in politics."
