CHP Chairman Özgür Özel reacted to the dawn operation conducted against Ataşehir Municipality. Özel claimed that the will of the voters in municipalities is being attempted to be changed through pressure and political maneuvers.
Özel's statements came at a time when allegations that the General Directorate of Foundations is taking action to take over the ownership of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality building are also on the agenda. The CHP leader argued that a new political plan is being carried out through the balances in the municipal councils in Istanbul.
Stating that they are ahead by 12 votes in Ataşehir, Özel said, "They pulled 6 municipal council members to their side through pressure, blackmail, and money." Özel said that equality was created after this and that pressure was put on the deputy mayor to resign.
After stating that the deputy mayor said, "I will not surrender," Özel used the expression, "This morning, they went and took him from his home."
Linking the events to the Istanbul elections, the CHP leader said, "They will take Ataşehir, which the nation did not give them, they will take Istanbul, which the nation did not give them, and Tayyip Erdoğan will have won."
Addressing President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Özel said, "In this country, first this government will be changed, then everything will be changed."
