Özgür Özel visits Fatih Erbakan: Cites Özlem Çerçioğlu example! 'In a state where one cannot face the public'

Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel and his accompanying delegation visited New Welfare Party (YRP) Chairman Fatih Erbakan to share their views on the political agenda. Notable statements were made during the joint press conference held after the meeting.

During the meeting, Özgür Özel focused particularly on the debates surrounding Aydın Metropolitan Mayor Özlem Çerçioğlu's transition to the Justice and Development Party (AKP). Stating that Çerçioğlu had filed a criminal complaint against him, Özel used the following expressions:

"If there is an Aydın Metropolitan Mayor who made Aziz İhsan Aktaş pay the bill for the polls and then switched to the AKP, we are in a process where there is no justice. We are suffering from the AKP's political snatch-and-grab operation. When I stated her situation, the cunning person filed a criminal complaint against me. I wish you had filed a compensation lawsuit so we could see. Those who trust themselves, their morality, and their clean municipal management are in Silivri with their honor."

'LET THIS BE A LESSON TO THOSE JOINING THE AKP'

Criticizing inter-party transfers, Özel said, "Let this be a lesson to those joining the AKP. This business does not end with the election. It happens after the election." In his statements, he also underscored that their struggle against party switching in the political arena would continue.

Touching upon economic difficulties, the CHP Chairman also voiced the hardships faced by retirees: "Our most fundamental issue was the cost of living. Especially the fact that the lowest pension is 20 thousand liras and that retirees have been united in poverty. We talked about the expectations and problems of tradespeople and all segments of society. They expect the government and us to solve these problems."

During the visit, Özel also touched upon various judicial processes and reiterated his concerns regarding impartiality in the judiciary.

ERBAKAN'S ASSESSMENTS

Taking the floor at the meeting, YRP leader Fatih Erbakan harshly criticized the economic policies. Emphasizing that the government is busy strengthening its own circle, Erbakan said, "While the government is busy strengthening its own circle, it has also created a republic of grievances on the other hand."

Evaluating the operations against CHP-run municipalities, Erbakan argued that different treatment is applied in tenders based on political parties. Pointing out that Aziz İhsan Aktaş received tenders from both AKP/MHP-run and CHP-run municipalities, he emphasized justice with the words, "We are against the application of separate laws for the opposition and the government; we are against the application of law according to the person, the party, and the individual."

After the meeting, the two party leaders agreed that the main problems in the country are the economic crisis and issues of political ethics, while the government's current practices continued to be criticized.
