Özgür Özel: 'We hope for an end to Israel's attacks during the holy month of Ramadan'

Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel, who attended an iftar program in Burdur, met with citizens. In his speech at the program, Özel stated, "We call for an end to the oppression, attacks, war, and state terrorism carried out by Israel in Palestine."

"WE HOPE FOR AN END TO THE CONFLICTS DURING THE HOLY MONTH OF RAMADAN"

Congratulating the citizens of Burdur on the month of Ramadan, Özel said, "Our only wish during this holy month is for the oppression in Palestine to come to an end," and added:

"There is something that I believe every one of us here would agree on, and that is the need for the shedding of tears and blood to stop. In Palestine, following an attack by Hamas months ago, more than 32 thousand Palestinians have lost their lives in attacks carried out by the State of Israel in a disproportionate manner, without regard for the sick, children, or women. We know that a very significant portion of these victims are women and children.

We hope for the conflicts to stop and for Israel's attacks to cease during the holy month of Ramadan. However, it did not happen. I had written to the leaders of left-wing, social democratic, and socialist parties in 140 countries around the world, stating that we must make an effort to ensure a ceasefire. From here, from Burdur, we once again call for an end to the oppression, attacks, war, and state terrorism carried out by Israel."

"CHP'S SUPPORT FOR PALESTINE CONTINUES IN THE SAME WAY TODAY"

Stating that the support they have provided since the beginning of the war continues in the same way today, Özel said, "As the Chairman of the CHP, I would like to express that we embrace the relationship that our third chairman, the conqueror of Cyprus, Karaoğlan Bülent Ecevit, established with Yasser Arafat at the time. We wish God's mercy upon both Bülent Ecevit and Yasser Arafat.

Their solidarity with each other and the CHP's support for Palestine continue in the same way today. I once again demand the establishment and recognition of an independent Palestinian state with its capital in East Jerusalem within the 1967 borders, and that the whole world supports this peace formula. I pray to the Almighty for the bloodshed to stop and for peace to prevail throughout the Islamic world and our beautiful country," he said.
