It has been reported that two notable decisions regarding political parties in Turkey were taken at the Presidency meeting of the Party of European Socialists (PES), the umbrella organization for social democratic parties in Europe, held in Brussels.
According to the information shared, the PES has suspended the membership of the Republican People's Party (CHP). At the same meeting, the YENİ Party's membership application was accepted unanimously.
With the decisions taken at the meeting held in Brussels, the capital of Belgium, on October 15, the membership status of parties from Turkey within the PES has been changed.
The decision has emerged as a new topic regarding the relations of political parties in Turkey with social democratic organizations in Europe. The PES decision has also brought about discussions regarding the positions of the CHP and the YENİ Party in international political networks.
Previously, the Socialist International had also suspended the CHP's membership on October 1 and accepted the YENİ Party's membership. It was reported that the decision in question was taken following the "absolute nullity" process within the CHP.
