The People's Assembly of Turkey elects its Eskişehir representatives

Following Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir, the people's representatives to be sent to the People's Assembly of Turkey (THTM) from Eskişehir have been determined. 

FIRST MEETING TO BE HELD IN ANKARA

The THTM is an initiative set out for a secular, independent, sovereign country, a state-planned economy, and a social system where all citizens can achieve prosperity and enlightenment in equality and brotherhood. This initiative will hold its first meeting in Ankara on January 7, with the participation of the initial members as well as representatives to be elected at meetings across Turkey.

Sadık Yurtman, President of the Eskişehir Environmental Protection and Development Association, and Hüseyin Barış, President of the Yıldıztepe Cooperative, attended the event, which drew intense interest from the people of Eskişehir.

"THE REPUBLIC WAS DESTROYED BY HOLDINGS AND RELIGIOUS SECTS"

At the meeting held at the Taşbaşı Cultural Center, the first speech after the election of the council was delivered by Erhan Nalçacı, a member of the Party Assembly of the Communist Party of Turkey, who is among the callers of the THTM.

Stating that secularism and equality are indispensable for republics, Nalçacı said, "The 1923 Revolution was made against the sultanate, against a class. It was made against imperialism." In his speech, where he emphasized the revolutionary nature of the republic, Nalçacı stated, "We are talking about a republic that has been destroyed by holdings and religious sects." He pointed to the opening of the way for religious sects, the increase in the influence of the capitalist class, and the suppression of the labor movement as the reasons for the collapse of the Republican Revolution in Turkey.

Erhan Nalçacı ended his speech with a call for a new republic based on secularism, without holdings, based on equal citizenship, and governed by a planned economy.

"I CAN SAY THAT THOSE WHO WILL REPRESENT US ARE THOSE WHO LIVE THE SAME LIFE AS US"

At the meeting, university student Şevval Eroğlu spoke on behalf of the youth. Touching upon Resul Alan, who committed suicide at Anadolu University at the beginning of the year, Eroğlu emphasized the need to destroy hopelessness. Underlining that one must stand against the evil surrounding the youth, Eroğlu said, "This was perhaps the most important thing I was taught: One does not negotiate with evil. One does not respect evil; one only and only fights against it."

Eroğlu explained why she took part in the THTM with these words: "If anyone asks where we are looking for hope, let us show them the People's Assembly of Turkey. Let us establish such an assembly today that we can say, 'That is the assembly where those who will represent us, who know our problems, and who live the same life as us are.'"

"I AM RUNNING BECAUSE I KNOW THTM IS THE ASSEMBLY OF THE LABORERS"

Hatice Yıldız, General Secretary of the Homeland Lovers Association, announced her candidacy with the words, "I am running for an independent, secular, and democratic country in the 100th year of the Republic of Turkey."

Fırat Çiftçi, a cleaning worker at the municipality, gave his speech on the impoverishment of laborers. Stating that Eskişehir is not free from exploitation, Çiftçi said, "I am running because I know that the THTM is the assembly of the laborers."

Speaking on behalf of high school youth, 10th-grade student Ege Bağcı addressed the problems of the youth, from vocational high schools to religious sect dormitories, noting, "They moved vocational high schools to industrial centers and drove us to death by using us as interns. They openly marketed us to bosses through verbal, written, and practical means. At times, they forcibly took every age group from primary school to high school to the mosque, and at times, they brought the imam to our classroom and made us listen by force."

Stating that he would convey the problems he listed to the THTM, Bağcı said, "I also want to be a part of the struggle by representing all our classmates who want to bring their country to enlightenment in this assembly."

Retired education worker Fatma Uğuz, who spoke after Ege Bağcı, said she was a candidate, stating, "I am in the struggle for a life worthy of human dignity."

6 REPRESENTATIVES DETERMINED

While five candidates were elected as representatives, the People's Assembly of Turkey Eskişehir meeting was successfully completed. 

The THTM will hold its first meeting in Ankara on January 7, with the participation of its calling members as well as representatives to be elected at meetings across Turkey.
